The old saw is that the Prairies are so flat you can see your dog run away from home. For 3 days!
Of course there’s only a tiny kernel of truth in that, but it’s basically true — the place really is mostly flat. And given the relatively small population of Saskatchewan
People: 1.2 million
Cattle: 849 gazillion
Mosquitoes: All of them
… one would think you can’t get lost.
But I did.
Instead of taking the Yellowhead Trail out of Winnipeg, I somehow stayed on the TransCanada Highway.
For SIX hours before I noticed 🤦🏾♂️
That lead me to spending the night in Wolseley, SK. Never heard of it? Neither had I.
The pizzeria next to the motel had one of those world maps where visitors stick a push pin to show where they’re from. This is MY kinda place! 😃
Of course their gyro dinner made me sick and throughly flushed out my system that night. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
At the motel in Wolseley, locals come by and sit on the porch and tell tales with the travellers. As one mother of “several children” said to me, in this place “Once everybody finally shuts up,” [side-eye glance at hubby], “it’s so beautiful. The silence is deafening.”
